Yeah, that's Alex. But unless Eric Harvey has drastically changed in the last two years, the second from left guy is new.

Hmm. Showing it to my wife and comparing pics....now I think maybe it is Eric Harvey...

    Fuck...I don't know.

Seems weird that with the publicity beginning to ramp up, that there would be no mention of a line-up change...so far anyway. Somebody has to ask about it sooner or later.

He hasn't been in any of the promo photos, most significantly the promo pic on Matadors website. I think Eric might be gone. If so, they will have a big gap to fill. Then again, maybe he's just been seriously indisposed?

I think you're right. I had almost convinced myself that the new guy was Eric. Mainly because when I first caught on to Spoon in 2006(?), the second time I saw them at a small outdoor show in Lawrence, KS, I recall that Eric looked (to me) a lot like latter stage Jim Morrison -- long wavy hair, big bear-like beard. I thought maybe he was going for that look again. Actually, Eric Harvey has posted on this board before to give us the straight story on what Divine Fits meant for Spoon. I'd love to hear the real situation from him. I know he's got a lot of friends on the board (me in particular).

It'd be good to see something from the band on Eric: either assurance of his continued participation, or a tribute to his past contributions to the group. Either in publication or photographic way. Eric is a humble, cool dude and I really enjoyed him being a part of Spoon for such a long time. At the least, he was cool to me, and an excellent ambassador for the group.

Scroll down, and there is a picture of Spoon that includes Eric. Is this picture recent?

Can't tell how recent. I could not see him in the videos of new songs, but they were very dark. This album should be so good, hard to see I aint the one and Hot thoughts on album together, great to imagine what is between.

Sounds like Eric is on tour with Hamilton Leithauser this year.

It's strange to me that Eric's role in Spoon hasn't grown, since he actually got a songwriting credit on the last record. What I mean to say is, if Spoon is starting to play shows this year, you'd think Eric would be in the live lineup, instead of acting as a hired gun for a less prominent act. For all intents and purposes so long as Jim and Britt are recording together, that's what's important, Spoon exists, and that's the heart of the Spoon sound. But, for as long as I've been a fan of Spoon, Eric has been a member, and I've thought of him in that way. I just assumed his role would grow after TWMS, but perhaps he's looking to concentrate on his own music. Either way, he's a cool dude, a good songwriter, and I hope he keeps playing music.

Eric will be missed if he is truly departed. He is not on the new itunes promo photo for the band. Which could mean something? But who knows? He is a great musician. Really love his solo record, just listened to it a few months ago again. She's a Chameleon is such a good track.

Also the new Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam record is so great. I won't Give Up is my fav track. So "Elvis Costelloy" for me. I really dig it.

So here' to more speculation, I guess?

So, is he back in the band? He was at the DC show last night (Merriweather), which, by the way, was great as always, just too short.

No, Eric isn't back with Spoon. I'm looking at pictures from the DC show and it's still Gerardo Larios playing with them (Gerardo is awesome BTW).

Eric is still playing in Hamilton Leithauser's band.
