That's awesome. Transference did even BETTER than Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga for selling copies. Buying records in record stores is cool!

"Nobody Gets me but you" is a pretty amazing song played live. I hope that's a favorite on their tour.

  3. I am absolutely amazed at the rhythm on Is Love Forever?

One of the things I look forward to is finding new favorites. I'm sure you've all had the experience of discovering a *new* song on an old album, right?

This is going to sound hard to believe, but I only recently discovered how AMAZING Metal Detektor is. And the same thing happened with You Gotta Feel It ... and countless other Spoon tunes.

haha yes!!! Metal Detektor rules! I actually got into the song a couple years back when this guy kept yelling "METAL DETEKTOR!!!!" repeatedly and I had no idea what that song was. Thank you song requester!!

Metal Detektor is probably in my top 10 Spoon songs, maybe even top 5. So far on Transference I'm really digging Before Destruction, I Saw The Light, and a growing favorite is Nobody Gets Me But You. The guitar just sparks this emotion in me I'm not quite sure what it is. And when Britt comes in and says "Nobody gets what I'm saying" in that really desperate sounding croon, that part is great too.

Hey Tyler (or anyone!) Can you please email me at chrisgoldny@gmail.com re: the vinyl version of "Mystery Zone"? I'm dying to hear it! Did you guys hear the new Spoon cover of "Love Song" by The Damned on the Starbucks Sweetheart CD? I just picked it up today.

Here are the links where I uploaded two versions of Mystery Zone. The first link is a bit bigger in size. If that doesn't work I will email it to you if you want.

Hey ThisGirl, I also recently had a "You Gotta Feel It" revelation. I don't know why it took so long for that song to click with me, but it's certainly awesome.

I have listened to "Out Go the Lights" more than any other song on Transference. I am pretty sure it's the saddest Spoon song in existence, but geez... it's so beautiful.

Hey Tyler, thanks so much for responding and for your help with this. Do you mind emailing to me? The links say "deleted or invalid file" when I click on them. I really appreciate it! I have some Spoon goodies too, including an MP3 of the new Starbucks/Damned track which is pretty great.

I am loving I Saw the Light ... and the way it turns into Trouble Come Running.

I didn't need to hear the album to know I was gonna love it, cause - hey! - it's Spoon, but I am thrilled with how much more I love it than I even expected to. Britt Daniel & the gang are such PROFESSIONALS. Sometimes I get a little choked up to be a fan of such a great group. :) This sounds silly, but I pat myself on the back for choosing such a worthy band to fall in love with. I feel like they're going the distance.

What am I saying? They already have ... but will continue to do so too. I have total confidence in them, and am more than a little bit in love with them.

For me, too, I feel a connection b/c BD is just a few years older than I am. In a world filled with youth adoration (which is fine), I love having a cool icon in his late 30s. Am watching him for pointers on staying cool gracefully.

I went to the Aesop Rock show at Mohawk (in Austin) last week & it was TREMENDOUS, but felt a little bit sad at some fans who seemed old/out of it. Course I shouldn't judge because they were at a hip hop show, and that takes guts, right?

My heroes are Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) and Britt Daniel. In a perfect world, I would celebrate my birthdays with them. LOL.

Have you seen this absolutely hilarious clip?

DevilDishes - I agree with you about the sadness of Out Go the Lights. Very tender. Very sad.

So who is this Chicago, Illinois woman who shows up in all these songs/albums?

before Transference came out, I caught myself having the new revelation of "Small Stakes"...and since I'm in that album...why not listen to a little Jonathan Fisk, while I'm at it? :)
Out Go The Lights is sad, but almost like an "I'm okay with it" sadness.

In a bit of semi-unrelated news, I got my "Not Turning Off" 7" the other day...the B side is "Party Up"...crazy stuff.

it totally doesn't sound like anything Prince would touch though.
I love Britt's yelps on it.

Yesterday I was listening to Transference... What a fantastic album!!

I don't know if some of you noticed... In "I saw the light" I hear a very slowed down voice from 2:55 - 3:15 or somewhere in between.
So I used audacity to speed up the audio and I can barely understand something like: "He wants you more Delta Oh Wah"
And then the other part in 3:41 - 3:47 says "he wants you he wants you more" or something like that.

    Do somebody else noticed it?

Wow, no, I haven't noticed. I'll try to see if I can hear it when I get home today. Good ears!

Yes I just noticed upon re-listen. There's also more around the 3:59 mark. Wow that's very cool you caught that. I wonder the reason behind it?

I noticed that in "I Saw the Light," but had failed to investigate it further to see if it was actually a slowed down voice or just some cool musical effect.

I also here what sounds to be some backwards vocals in "The Mystery Zone" around 4:34. I keep meaning to mess around and see if it actually is backwards vocals, but I've been lazy and/or at work all the time. (Also, I expect to be disappointed because years ago, with my limited computer skills, I spent a lot of time finding out what the reverse vocals in "No You're Not" were only to find it was a line from the song, reversed-- not the meaning of life.)

    EDIT:
Okay, I went in and reversed that section but couldn't hear anything that made sense. Maybe it's just backwards vocal sounds (no real words). But I did it real quick and didn't adjust anything, so I may be lying here.

OK, so I reversed the vocals in The Mystery Zone on that part and I seem to hear: "back to the place(?)" ...I think they used parts of another song's vocals and reversed them and placed them there.
Then I hear "back" on the second reversed phrase
I uploaded the first part for you to hear

EDIT: I also compiled the three sections of the slowed down voice in "i saw the light" sped up for you to hear

Hey I only just noticed my European CD edition (on ANTI-) has 'Mean Red Spider' on as a bonus track. That's pretty cool.

It's not really hidden - there is no silence gap, but it's not mentioned on the cover. It's just there as track 12.

Pherron, do you think you could upload it? My vinyl rip, still does not make me happy....the quality doesn't match the album, and it irritates me. haha. So is it possible to upload. please?

P.S. I have been crazy crazy busy, on vacation, then busy again lately and haven't been on the spoon board in a long time. :( But I am back now!
