Alright so I'm just curious on if anyone out there has some rare songs that I might not have.
I have 241 Spoon songs on my winamp. If anyone has any more than that let me know. I don't know how to go about this. Post your rare songs that you think are rare. Let's share!

Not counting live stuff or Britt solo, I have 188; counting everything, I have 278. I always like to refer people to Pete Herron's discography--it's pretty much complete as far as I can figure.

that NPR concert talked about in a different thread has a pretty good cover of Paul Simon's "Peace Like a River". it is probably not that rare, but i still like the cover. i am pretty new to Spoon and only have a couple of CDs that i got from a friend and one NPR Concert.

When I type in "Spoon" on my iTunes, I get 220 tracks... But I know at least four of those are songs by other artists (three versions of "Spoon" by Cibo Matto, and "Darkness And The Silver Spoon" by mk Ultra).

I used to have a list of all of the Spoon stuff I have, but I stopped keeping up with it. I keep meaning to update it. If I ever do, I'll post a link to it.

Okay, my (ugly as sin) list is here:
http://www.freewebs.com/tastyprawn/spoon.htm

That is what I have, minus some various live recordings that were never officially released... It comes out to 221 tracks. I'd be interested to see the lists of others (besides Peter's-- I've seen that and I'm not worthy! 8O ).

Feel free to ask me to send you songs that are on my list.

Oy, kudos to you for putting that together. I might try to do this at some point in the future, when I'm feeling less lazy.

That is an amazing list. I just can't tell if I have a lot of those already but with different names and what not.

I got tired making while it, but I plan to update it with notes on what has appeared on the MF'er or Devil's Dishes comps.

I still need to transfer some of my spoon 7" vinyl over to the computer, but I have a few rare tracks. Nothing that someone else probably doesn't already have, though.

For those interested I just came across a release of The Underdog live at KGSR, on 'KGSR Broadcasts: vol. 15" from 2007. They also had a track on KGSR vol 14.

And another one:

KCRW's Sounds Eclectic: The Next One (released 2nd Sep 2008 exclusive to amazon.com): I Summon You (live at KCRW)

Hey, Herron -- since you're conveniently on this board:

The guy whose Skellington cassettes I was gonna scan so you'd have the covers/inserts for your discography reports that he lost all his tapes in some incident that he refused to describe further.

It's a damn good thing I copied off the 3 otherwise-unreleased pre-SPOON recordings that Britt had tagged onto one of those cassettes, at least! ["Weah", "There Is a Cat" and "Scathe"]

- kwl aka mnw aka ndj aka etc.

BTW: The rarest SPOON CD that I have would clearly have to be the one-of-a-kind CD-R of "Gimme Fiction" that Britt burned for me several months before the album's release when I was working on a magazine feature about the band. There's nothing special about the recording (except that it repeats track one on the end for no good reason) but it is a unique disc that was recorded and hand-labeled by Mr. Daniel himself.

Here's some stuff for you kids to listen to:

1) The very first recording by Britt Daniel and Jim Eno together, when they were in the country band The Alien Beats: http://www.imeem.com/middlenamewayne/music/v-PAa3ce/spoonalien_beats_under_the_table/

2) Britt w/Drake Tungsten the band, performing at a Cure hoot nite: http://www.imeem.com/middlenamewayne/music/t3tZiRkB/spoondrake_tungsten_1015_saturday_night/

That's a shame. I don't know if we'll ever see those Skellington covers now. Thanks for all your other help anyway. Wouldn't mind a chance to hear those early tracks!

I would love to get a hold of any pre-Spoon stuff. As well as some of the B-sides of singles (i.e. The Way We Get By, Anything You Want). I have most everything; however, the quality on some of it is less than ideal given that the original source was often cassette or vinyl. Including two live shows, I have 213 songs by Spoon and Drake Tungsten.

I would also love to find DVD footage. Austin City Limits is supposed to release at least one of their performances sometime soon. Someone needs to do a documentary/live performance DVD of the band. Hum...maybe somebody should loan me some money so I could do it...hahaha.

Is there anything about this online ? I would love to see anything of their Austin City Limits Appearance.

you can watch one of the songs from their 2005 performance:

http://www.pbs.org/klru/austin/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=172&Itemid=650

Here is the set list (however, the entire show was most likely recorded. This is just what appeared on the broadcast):

* My Mathematical Mind
* The Two Sides of Monsieur Valentine
* The Beast and Dragon, Adored (with M. Ward)
* I Summon You
* Anything You Want
* The Delicate Place
* Sister Jack

ACL also aired a performance from 2003, but strangely there is no information about this on the website. They shared the bill with Ben Kweller. Again, it is likely that the whole set was recorded. It is my hope that ACL will release both shows in their entirety, but that may be difficult. Supposedly, the project is in the works...my fingers are crossed.

I just added four obscure trax to my IMEEM page real quick:

* Isolation (Britt live)
* Government Darling (orig. demo w/Wendal Stivers)
* Scathe (demo/jam) this was found recorded onto the end of a Skellington cassette
(it's not on any other known copies of the cassette)
* Sister Jack (piano version)

Lemme know if they're not the correct versions -- I didn't check too carefully:

www.imeem.com/middlenamewayne

EDIT: Also i put up a primitive video of Britt/Drake T. performing The Cure song "OBJECT":

http://www.imeem.com/middlenamewayne/video/4bAAlymG/r_smith_object_music_video/

Also check out my own work with guest artists Daniel Johnston, Beck and others!

- mnw

PS: If you can figure out how to use the "download" function, you'll be a hero to me and everyone else! (And maybe I'll post better and rarer tunes, like "There Is a Cat", "RXN", "Underwater Fuchestra",and "Crispin Glover"!!!)

PPS: ACL records EVERYTHING that is performed in the studio -- the same probably applies to the ACL Fest, but time and number of acts may preclude that possibility...

middlenameway: thanks for sharing. I've been a big fan of Daniel for some time and enjoyed your duets. Also, it was cool to hear that version of Government Darling. I don't think I have a copy. Anyway, thanks!

Hello everybody -- first-time poster. Anyway, I'm sure someone has already posted about this, but does anybody know the name of the Fiery Furnaces song that Britt occasionally covers? I believe I heard him play it circa 2004 at a solo outing in San Francisco. Does this ring a bell with anybody?

Pherron, thanks! I was hopeful to find the version on the Way We Get By single along w/ Advance Cassette. Anticipation is just a great stripped down song (I have the 7") and I have always wanted a nice clean version on CD. I appreciate your help!

Sorry lightactivity, I can't help you out but somebody on here will probably know.

Sorry, my mistake! I didn't realise that EP was so out of print and starting to get expensive. Here's all the b-sides on the EP:

Holy cow, that's awesome. I thought they would be from a show... but I guess they're incredibly clean live band performances instead, which is better in my mind. Thanks so much for putting that up.

My inability to get Monkey Feelings without ordering the UK Sister Jack single is starting to bug me. I suppose you have that, Pete? And, uh, Carryout Kids too... I guess I really don't like ordering singles for one song. Thanks either way.

Natch, I think you should buy the singles and support the band. However, I'm willing to help you out just this once. ;)

I agree that anything available people should buy, but the Way We Get By EP is outof print and a quick web browse showed up quite high prices second hand - none of that will go to Spoon. That was why I posted it.

Thanks so much! And I totally understand where you're coming from; somebody gave me a burnt copy of Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here and it bothered me so much that I went out and bought it anyway. These songs just seem out of my reach; "Carryout Kids" in particular would be a huge expense for just a couple songs.

Most everybody I know gets their music illegally; I'm one of the only people I know who actually buys albums.

Reading through this thread I realize I'm not quite the biggest spoon fan, but that's cool. (itunes says 128 tracks exactly). Bought each album after a friend gave me Gimme Fiction as a gift (bonus disc included!). I really fell for the band after listening to all of Get Nice. Truly excellent work.

If requests for songs are allowed, there are just a few songs I would very much like to request.
The Way We Get By (Demo)
Don’t Let It Get You Down (Alternate Mix)
Rhthm & Soul (Middle Version)
Is This The Last Time?
In The Right Place The Right Time
It Took A Rumor To Make Me Wonder

If this is a totally dumb thing to do, please let me know. I do love to support bands and am an avid CD-purchaser, but some of those songs are dang hard to find anymore. Thanks for anyone's help in advance and sorry to trouble!
