The Merge vinyl copy definitely doesn't have Lafitte so what you saw is the standard copy. However Lafitte was never a vinyl single as far as I'm aware, just an out of print CD.

Lafitte came out after Elektra dropped spoon. It was put out as a 7" on Saddle Creek wasn't it?

Yes you are correct! My mistake. I must have misread something about it.

    Pherron-
So I was reading over Spoon's page on the Merge website..... and this an exact clip of it.....

    L is for
    Laffitte

'Cause what major label A&R guy wouldn't want to tell his grandchildren he was immortalized in a bilious 7" single ("The Agony of Laffitte / Laffitte Don't Fail Me Now") about the music business, memorializing Spoon's unpleasant and abbreviated time as "Elektra recording artists."

The band's sophomore CD A Series of Sneaks went on to achieve genuine cult status despite the utter lack of MP3 blogs (or MP3s, for that matter) way back in 1998.

.....it says "Laffitte" was a 7"! i'm so confused!

AND on Merge's order page for "Series of Sneaks" vinyl it includes both of those songs! And earlier I asked about that, and you said that the vinyl didn’t have those tracks on it! Is it possible that the Merge website is wrong?

    I'm so confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

I own the red vinyl Series of Sneaks and the white-marbled vinyl Girls Can Tell. Snagged them on eBay over a year ago for a pretty penny. I almost bid for the Telephono vinyl and Love Ways vinyl when I saw them up for bid, but those were going for just too much.

    Pherron-

I just emailed Saddle-Creek and asked about the single, and sure enough it was only on a CD! I should have never doubted you! :)

Saddle creek got back to me really fast! I emailed a few days ago about shipping questions on Bright Eyes’ “A Christmas Album” on vinyl. (Which I’m really excited about because I love Bright Eyes and it’s the first time it’s been on vinyl) and they got back to me within the hour! They're one of my top fav indie labels, besides Merge of course.

I think you mean Soft Effects on vinyl as Loveways (like 'Lafitte' Tyler!) was CD only to the best of my knowledge.

Mmm... I love coloured vinyl - I managed to snag both the red Sneaks & white Girls a while back. I also have both Telephono and Soft Effects on vinyl, which I got for quite reasonable prices.

Oh, right! I meant Soft Effects. For some reason, I always get their titles mixed up.

someone please give Soft Effects EP on vinyl ;) thankyou! You guys are quite the spooninites! I wouldn't know where to begin or loook to find those fancy vinyls.

I was insound.com earlier and only saw a "Someone Something" single on vinyl. I wanted it, but for some reason I don't trust websites or mailing of vinyl. Anyone ever been to that site? I know it's not a rare album but I've never seen it.

Actually you can purchase the "Someone Something" 7" off of Merge's website for $3.98, and Merge ships to all U.S. for free.

I know that you ben about mailing vinyl. I just ordere Bright Eyes' "A Christmas Aibum" off of Saddle Creek's website. I didn't want to pay $8 so I got the cheapest, standard, USPS shipping which was $3. I recieved it last night, and ordered it on Monday. It came in a nice carboard package, and the vinyl was wrapped with carboard shock absorbing material. It was not damaged a bit! They also threw in a hand written thank you note to me, and a handful of Bright Eyes, Cursive, and Sabastian Grangier stickers. So if you order directly from a record label's site, they'll take care of you prety well.

It's up to you really. Like you said about a website you don't know like "insound.com" buyer beware. But since Merge has the 7" single for $4 I'd get it.

I have ordered vinyl from insound.com and had no problems. In fact I rarely get any problems with vinyl in the mail in general and my vinyl often has to cross the Atlantic to get to me. I'd agree with Tyler that Merge is the best place cost wise. Record labels often are cheaper - no middle man I guess.

It's funny you mentioned Insound, I just ordered a few Grizzly Bear vinyls from them. They arrived in perfect condition. I figured a company that prides itself on the sale of vinyl would know how to ship them, and I was happy to find that they did.

Grizzly bear! That's a band I've been hearing about lately. I haven't got to check them out yet. Are they good? What's a good place to start?

Yes, they're quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. The record they put out this year, "Veckatimest", is great. It's very elegant, yet poppy at the same time. One of my favorite records this year. I'd probably start there, and if you like that, move on to "Yellow House".

Ok cool thanks. I just downlaoded their daytrotter session. I was give that a listen, and see what it's like. I read about "Veckatimest" and heard good things about it. I always see the "While You Wait for the Others" single at the record store when I browse through the vinyl. I looked up the track just to listen to, and I liked it!

    I like "Cheerleader" and "Knife"

Born Ruffians cover the song "Knife" and I like the cover version better.

Had this recording of Britt performing at a party for the Austin Chronicle (maybe 2001, 2002). Did a set of 10-12 songs, including Anything You Want and Agony of Lafitte, etc., but my favorite was his cover of Remove This Doubt. He made the song his own and it's still one of the best things my ears have ever heard. The CD I got from a friend at the Chronicle was stolen, and the computer I had it backed on crashed. That was maybe seven or eight years ago, and I still hope that one day I'll come across the recording again.
I think I'd sell a part of my soul.
    The better part--

I rank Remove This Doubt as one of the best songs they ever performed.

See if this don't qualify for a high position among Rarest SPOON Albums:

The Double Mono LP is limited to 300 copies, is packaged in a custom screened jacket with a half red half blue vinyl. The album was put together and designed by Phillip Niemeyer in conjunction with a group show of art and design for anaglyph 3-D glasses. The art show was at Grey Duck Gallery in May/June 0f 2013. Featuring THE OCTOPUS PROJECT, AU, PALAXY TRACKS, JOHN SABA JR., DEVIN MAXWELL, III,

      JIM ENO

and ERIN FLANNERY & ZACH LAYTON. [from www.aagoo.com ]

This is a gorgeous piece of listenable art, I gotta tellya! You can see what the elaborately-packaged multi-colored vinyl 12-incher looks like at the URL that I gave above, and you can hear the music (don't get too excited -- drummers' solo efforts are... well, drummy) at soundcloud.com/double-mono. (FWIW, my copy is #90 of the 300 that were pressed.)

    - mnw

PS: I was at the Chron til the end of 2003, so the recording mentioned above is either from after then or my neuro problems at the time have blocked it out.

Hey guys, does anyone know how to get in touch with "harryglidner" on here? I have this entire live Britt solo set that he speaks of, and I'd like to give it to him.

YES, Britt's cover of REMOVE THIS DOUBT is probably the best thing I've ever heard in my life. The reason I ended up on this message board is because I typed it into google to find out if there was any video footage of him performing it. Came across this thread, and I'd like to share this amazing performance with you all. But I'd like to make sure "harryglidner" gets in on it first since he was going to sell his soul for it. I literally just made an account on here to do a bit of goodwill.

    Thanks!
    Mike

I snuck a series of tunes you might wanna hear onto my Soundcloud page.

    C Vantez orig. demo

    Finger Andy Maguire

And gosh, with a little luck and "skell", who knows what else you'll find?

BTW: It looks like Double Mono, the compilation LP w/a Jim Eno solo track, has just been rereleased. Originally, only 300 copies were made, of which I have #90. Here is info on the new edition.
