So wow. I really never thought I would see a Greatest Hits album from Spoon. I am happy don't get me wrong. I always wanted one, along with a live album, and I just assumed that would come maybe after the band ends. For a second I thought it was a goodbye from the band. But no, there is work yet to be done. I guess I am that good kind of shocked that John Cougar Mellencamp pined about in "Hurts so Good". Like how can pain feel good John? He elaborated, and then we all understood.

As time keeps rolling on everything I hold dear wears, tarnishes, and moth consumes it. This band has been making great record after great record. So this a like a breath to celebrate that. If we don't take in moments in our lives they are gone forever people. So enjoy a new Spoon single, and all of us can argue about what songs should have been there, sequencing etc. That's what we do.

But seriously grateful for years of music, memories and SOUL.

P.S. Glad Senor Larios is no officially on a recording!!!

P.S.S. Britt can still shred!!!! \m/

P.S.S.S. Dude seriously how is "Written in Reverse" not on here? I'll play the game where we have to do singles, heck even commercially released singles that are post "Everything Hits at Once". It is one of the greatest vocals in the band's history. Period. And do you remember how pumped we all were when we heard the teaser, our first glimpse into what would be Transference?!?!?! That alone!!!!!!!! ;P

Urghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh been anticipating a new album so badly recently. Super disappointed with this news...
And yeah they really should have left off Got Nuffin and put Written in Reverse or I saw the Light on. I think Got Nuffin and Sister Jack are probably their worst big songs

Yeah I was looking forward to a new album too, but that doesn't mean we won't get one. If it is not ready or the right time, the wait is worth it. The single is great.

I personally do like Got Nuffin a lot, I just wished Written in Reverse could have made it as well. Since it is a single. I Saw the Light is a fantastic song, but not a single, or a hit really; it's a great album track I'd say. And while Sister Jack is technically a single, I would not call it a "Spoon Hit". Maybe Beast and Dragon, Adored is a "Spoon Hit" as in a great live staple and a fan favorite, but not for a compilation.

    It's tough fo sho

Ah yeah now that you say it it is fair that I saw The Light wouldn't make it....Even if it is one of their best. It seems like 'Everything Hits at Once' is the fan favourite song on it which makes sense. Judging by the press release for the single it does seem like we won't be waiting too long for an album! Argh I never got Got Nuffin in transference, it seems so out of place in the album.

I think they picked good choices. Obviously everyone is going to have their picks. There was a good interview from yesterday put out by theringer.com that Britt discusses the selection process. He also says it's more of a marketing approach so I can why they chose songs that have had more commercial success. The purpose is to attract more listeners. Us die hard fans can just go on Spotify, queue up this list and there's no need to wait for the July 26th release date.

Both Transference and Got Nuffin took me forever to get into but Transference is my most played album and Got Nuffin my #5 played Spoon track. I love the hook, "I feel like a king, it feels like I'm dreaming."

As for the new song. I think it's perfect and it's exactly the direction I was hoping they would take. I enjoyed them dabbling in a more keyboard/synth approach but had missed the crashing guitars. And Britt's solo on this is awesome. I think they're doing a record and I think it'll be out by the end of year.

@Doc Yeah I heard. Very weird unexpected news.

@Joe I love Got Nuffin. I love Transference, but can see why people didn't get into it immediately. It's a grower for sure. But when I think Spoon, or to play Spoon for Someone "Written in Reverse" is one of the first I play them. 1. I Turn My Camera On 2. Written in Reverse 3. The Underdog

Yeah the setlist they chose for greatest hits is very strange to me but whatever. Sister Jack is great tho guys!!!!

New song is very good. Couple of strange lyrics to me (22 with a mortgage around your neck just seems wierd and rings falase to me) but hey, its a solid song! And I hope they stick with a direction more like that. Was not a fan of Hot Thoughts and realllllllly bummed by most of the songs on that album but this new song rips!!

@iamthekey Hey man I agree completely Sister Jack is so so good. I don't know why anyone would not like that song if they are a Spoon song. I have the single, and yeah I just dig it. Now I am hungry for fajitas....

As far as "No Bullets Spent" I think the lyric refers to student debt, graduating from college at 22. That makes a lot of sense to me.

It is really hard to get this list of songs down to a tight 45 min set though, wow. I did really love Hot Thoughts, and I thought maybe another track could have made best of. "I Ain't The One" is so beautiful. It's totally cool that you don't like the album, they can't all be for everyone.

What is your song ideas? I'd love to hear them. Good seeing you here.

I Aint the One is sick no doubt. Hot Thoughts is an Aiight song. Tear It Down or whatever its called is a total banger.

Yeah I dont udnerstand Britt's hate for Sister Jack. He's brought it up a couple times. Although it may stem form the amount of times they recorded it in a studio. I think it was at least three times. I know they did a version with Friedmen or Fridman or whatever his name is spelled back in pre-Gimme Fiction era. Id llooooove to hear that version although I have no doubt the version that got make it the best possible version of that song.

Oh yo in regards to newest song lyrics yeah I can kinda see that. I thought it was about Trump in the same way Mathematical Mind is about W Bush. Saying we need him to just drop dead for the good of the country before it turns to violence.

alright last post. Yeah I mean just going through the list I would probably swap out some of these songs. Yeahhhhhh I can see how tough it is to get that list down to size, and my list def neglects some albums too much, and I can see how Cherry Bomb might replace Sister Jack but like... c'mon... Sister Jack rips

    Camera
    Do You
    Me and The Bean
    Inside Out
    Way We Get By
    Underdog
    Stay Don’t Go
    I Summon You
    Jonathan Fisk
    Sister Jack
    Got Nuffin
    Everything Hits
    No Bullets Spent

Honestly, I think they NAILED the Greatest Hits album.

Every song deserves to be there.

    It flows perfectly.

It represents every album from GCT forward.

There are no contentious deep cuts that could've ruined broad appeal.

They even edited songs like Everything Hits, I Summon You and Camera to be shorter and tighter - but the edits are so good I didn't notice until I saw the track length on Spotify was different.

And in a final ace move, they named it after the oldest and most obscure song included (Everything Hits), to earn that song some extra attention.

More than anything else, it makes you really want to listen to more Spoon. Amazing job.

I agree with that. There might be songs I like better, but not as immediate as these. That's why the #mybestofspoon thing was cool to me. I tried to do songs I really like that meant something to me, and have something from almost every release, and something with a nice flow. Like a disc 2 if you will.
