What is everyones favorite Spoon album?

I think mine is Girls Can Tell. But, then again, I think it might be Gimmie Fiction.

It's hard to pick between their 4 most recent. They were all so great, while all so different. I think I'll have to go with Ga x5 for know. The album just works.

I dunno. Girls Can Tell never really gelled for me. My favorite is probably A Series of Sneaks, though Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is right up there. If the Soft Effects EP was a full album, it would easily be my favorite.

kill the moonlight is truly the shit. but it can't hold a candle to either gimme fiction nor to telephono. my fave is girls can tell, hands down. gagagagaga fo sho. so yeah, to reiterate, my favorite album is definitely loveways. i mean a series of sneaks.

an impossible question for the spoon message board, indeed.
    can anyone actually answer this?

No one ever says "Telephono" but I thought it was a pretty sweet album. It's not my favorite but I'm surprised no one has ever said it.

For me, my favorite is absolutely A Series of Sneaks. It's one of my top 10 favorite albums EVER The EPs (Loveways and Soft Effects) follow. As for the rest of the LPs, it's hard to say... Can they all tie for third?

    It is a difficult question.

I guess it changes every few months or so.

Mmmmm. I think I can safely go with Kill the Moonlight. I love every song on it, while there's at least one song on all the others that I usually skip. Plus, it's the only album I have signed. :)

Not to offend anyone here, but Spoon kinda sucked before Series of Sneaks. They had some good qualities, but they definitely had a lot of maturing to do musically. There are a couple songs I really like from Telephono and Soft Effects, but in general I don't like their old stuff.

P.S. does anyone have either of the Drake Tungsten (Britt's pseudonym when he did some solo stuff) releases?

There are so many great things about EACH album, but I'd have to say my favorite, like so many other people, is Gimme Fiction.

I have both (Clocking Out is for Suckers and the Six Pence for the Sauces EP) plus some other rarities that were compiled ages ago by the old Spoon Yahoo community. I'll be happy to send them to you if you'll email me at lauralizmclean at hotmail dot com.

I agree that Telephono has some serious flaws, particularly a lack of variety. However, Soft Effects is virtually flawless to me.

Your comment amount the maturation is true, too. Britt's grasp on music theory wasn't anything to write home about at the time. But I think it's the lack of maturity that keeps me listening to their early stuff. That and the weird time signatures.

Soft Effects was good, I don't really count that as a full album. I liked everything but "Get Out The State".

Right now, I would have to say "Girls Can Tell."

  17. I personally believe that Gimme Fiction is the best album of all time. I have yet to see something else as perfect. Recently i've been re-enjoying a lot of Kill The Moonlight.

It has to be "Girls can tell" with "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" in a close second.

Can't decide between Telephono, SOS, GCT, KTM, GF, & G5.
They're all so effin' good, y'know?
I have favorite songs from each album.

Being a "recent convert" I went to the songs they have on their webpage, and to Amazon.com to hear samples, and I guess I'm "spoiled" by GaGaGaGaGa! (I understand the preference for abbreviating G5, but like in the KCRW Morning becomes Eclectic Video, I relish letting the name fly, as Britt clearly did. I only used GaGa x 2.5 in my earlier comment to play on the word "gaga") They sound better on each subsequent album. Too bad I missed out on the process of watching them get so good. I'd say Gimme Fiction is clearly second, ahead of the others.

I agree that each album gets better and better. But it's really a tie between Girls Can Tell and Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. But A Series of Sneaks, Kill the Moonlight, and Gimme Fiction are all close seconds.

"Series of Sneaks" at the moment. "Ga" is a close second. Obviously each album has its merits, but I just think those two are really solid all the way through.

I'm for Kill The Moonlight as well- I could listen to it on repeat for hours and not get bored one bit. Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is a close second after that because I'm also a recent convert. I'm enjoying listening to the older tracks and hearing the differences from new and old songs.

Refuse/unable to choose, but I can say that "Kill" and "Gax5" are totally out of the running.

    Kill the Moonlight.

The range of sounds from the album confirmed the band's (or Daniel's) musicianship.

my favourite spoon album is always the one im listening to at the time. not sure if i understand how anybody can like some albums and dislike others. its all spoon at different points of development. without telephono they might not be who they are now. in twelve or so years i havent gotten tired of listening to them. their albums are reliable friends.
