SO GOOD.
I like it a lot too! I started recording right when they were coming out to perform, not realizing they were going to open with a new song. You can check out more videos from the show here, glad you guys enjoyed the video btw

Probably just title but super stoked to find out more about Shotgun. I assume not a Junior Walker cover!
Ha! I win! You may all bow before me!
Yep. I sarcastically "thanked" Britt earlier today for getting the DEVO song "Girl U Want" stuck in my head (the line "and the words get stuck on the tip of my tongue" is a direct spud-rip in lyric, melody, *and* beat).
In response, he congratulated me for being the first person to catch his appropriation of the line and cemented the honor with a firm handshake!
I forget his exact words, but he essentially said that it was just perfect in every way, so he chose to keep the borrowed line fully intact.
The simpler arrangement that was required for his solo acoustic guitar rendition of "Talk You Into It" today at the SXSW songwriters panel made it more obvious, naturally. (Just FYI, if you're playing spot the influence with Hot Thoughts, also note that David Bowie's "Lodger" was one of 7 or 8 albums in regular rotation at the studio while they were recording.)
I've also been told that among the songs on "Hot Thoughts" is a tribute/memorial to original Spoon member (for about 30 minutes) Al Marino, but I didn't think to ask Britt about that...
I kinda hate this song. It reminds me of late period Aerosmith. The lyrics are awful and vague-ly date rapey. Its a terrible name for a song and the melody sucks too.
After listening to the whole album, this is my favorite track at first listen through. I have played over and over. Beat is so catchy. Chords are like a double time version of The Beast and Dragon Adored. From key, to how they descend. It's the Spooniest sounding song to me so far.
Knowing the lyrics in this tune are, more or less, about an argument with a producer makes perfect sense now. Clever. Love this track.
This has been the one I have listened to the most out of any track. Just such a great groove, and instruments. The production on this track is also great, from the phased drums to great reverb sounds. It has so much going for it.
I've also been told that among the songs on "Hot Thoughts" is a tribute/memorial to original Spoon member (for about 30 minutes) Al Marino, but I didn't think to ask Britt about that...

Do tell Middlename. Which song? And who is Al?
Lopoco, I pretty much already told you who Al was, apart from being a great guy who made Wendal Stivers look sober! I found I have spelled his name wrong forever, though... it's *Moreno*!
And I'm still not sure if the song about him is on HoThots or is still in the works...
