I have been trying to collect spoon vinyl, just for the past few months. Does anyone have any suggestions where I can get good priced vinyl? I have bought everything I can, that is currently in print.

    Here is what I have:

Girls Can Tell LP (Re-issue) 12"
    Kill the Moonlight LP 12"
    Gimme Fiction LP 12"
Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga LP 12"
    Transference LP 12"

    Written in Reverse 7"
    30 Gallon Tank EP 7" (Peek-a-boo)
    Someone Something 7"
    Headz/Anticipation 7"
    Underdog (Promo) 7"

I would love to get some more 7" along with Telephono and Soft Effects on 12" (although this is doubtful).
I could of bought "Got Nuffin EP" on vinyl, either 7" or 12" but I bought the CD, and that particular format on that particular release is good enough for me. If it was a good price, I would but 10 to 13 dollars for 2 songs I like that I already own is a waste.

Any help or guidance would be much appreciated!!!!!

You pretty much have everything that's in print. I pretty much have resorted to ebay to get all of the out of print vinyl i own. Unfortunately, it gets kind of pricey. I had to pay $30 just for a copy of "Not Turning Off".

Yeah that is a lot for a 7"! I would probably pay whatever I had to pay for more spoon. The things you do for your favorite band.......I really wish Merge would re-issue Telephono and Soft Effects on 12" 180 gram vinyl. That would be great. I can only wish.

Z-Man What is the b-side for not turning off?

It's a cover of Prince's Partyup. Britt half screams the whole song, its an interesting rarity.

Oh yes. I remember now. Very cool. I'd love to hear, if it were possible. I read your other posts about collecting 7". I did it the other way, buying the LPs, then going after the 7" But now nothing is in print haha. I just have to stalk ebay now

I want 30 gallon tank and a seperated telephono and soft effects.

I don't know if it's worth dropping 10 bucks on the Anticipation single. I don't know what pressing it is, it might be the third

At this point, with most new 7"'s being around $10 it might not be the worst. 'Anticipation', like most Spoon, has pretty sweet art. But surfing Ebay using the "ending soonist" option is the best way to get a deal. If I don't get a job soon and have to Ebay any of my Spoon I'll let the list know.
    :)
I'll also keep my eye out for telephono/soft effects, I feel like I saw it at Buzzard's in Tacoma.

Yeah I wish.....when I first visited Peek-a-boo's site I immediately clicked on the 7" "Six Pence for the Sauces" EP. To my dismay it was out of print. It's been out of print for awhile. Oh, if only I wasn't 8 1/2 when it came out!!! Then I would know about it, through publication or internet, and bought it somehow......

Which color of Anticipation did Merge send you Tyler? I have a red copy, and if they're selling the white ones, I might jump on that.

yeah, black is first press, red is second press, white is third. I never noticed the engravings on vinyl until now...I just thought that was neat for some reason.

I have just about everything on vinyl but I've been collecting since 2002 and I did pay some eye-watering prices for a couple of things on eBay so I don't have any great advice - but good luck. I got beat on the Drake Tungsten cassette though and I only ever saw it come up once.

Last time I was in Waterloo Records they had 2 versions of the 45 in stock. There was something odd I noticed that I was gonna post about here, but I forget what it was. I'll have to bop back in there and see if they're still there.

Yeah -- I heard some hustler really rooked you on the Alien Beats single. (tee hee)

BTW: On your ever-excellent Spoon discog, when there's a pic of a CD/record/tape/etc does it mean you 100% guaranteed have a copy personally? Cuz if so, I won't bother to tell you if I run across any rarities you have pictured. Oh, and my token nit-pick: you say that the Drake Tungsten name was used from 1994-1996. I shared the stage with DT during a Cure Hoot Night* after '96 -- and he wasn't solo, just backed by a combo that wasn't his SPOON regulars. Of course, you probably meant just as far as CDs/records/tapes/etcs go.

*(I also played the Prince Hoot but they didn't put me on the CD!)

Pherron- what was the most you payed for something? I'd probably pay 40 to 50 dollars for the The Soft Effects EP and/or Telephono. I love the old stuff. I thought it was interesting that the Soft Effects EP was all 5 songs on Sides A & B.

I really can't remember Tyler - I think I paid the most for the Soft Effects 12" - something like $80 maybe. About $50 for Telephono. That was a lot less back when it was $2 to £1, now it's only $1.50 it's reduced my buying power somewhat.

Re cover pics - no I don't have a lot of the rarer stuff - none of the cassettes (Skellington, Drake, Bunch of Beatniks), no KUT Vol 4 CD, no Swearing At Motorists with a green cover 7". I do have a really cheaply bought copy of Alien Beats though :)

I did base my Drake Tungsten claim on his releases, so it probably is inaccurate - he certainly hasn't used that pseudonym for quite a while.

Wow....80 Dollars!! I would, but it would hurt so much! I have a feeling someday it will be reissued on vinyl. I know the band, Britt in particular, is really fond of the Soft Effects EP. I would hate to buy it for 80, then a month later it's re issued on 180 gm vinyl, brand new for $15. Or a situation similar to that. It happens to me all the time......

Pherron, is there a way you can re-post "The Way We Get By EP". I saw you posted it in the rarities thread but the link does not work any more. I asked for it in there, but you must not have checked it!

I read in an interview somewhere that Britt actually thinks his early works were something he really didn't like to do. It might have been Telephono though. It was one of the two.

I guess I should answer my own question. I probably learned about this interview from this thread.

    > ph sed: I did base my Drake Tungsten claim on his releases, so it probably is inaccurate.

Heh, heh... Actually, after I posted I looked back at the discog and saw that you list a DT release from 1998(!) It's a joint effort single with some other performer, but it still makes "1994-1996" rather glaringly incorrect!

    > dde sed: I read in an interview somewhere that Britt actually thinks his early works were something he really didn't like to do.

Um, if I've translated that sentence into English correctly, I would say that yes, he generally won't even mention Skellington or anything prior to that unless an interviewer specifically probes into his pre-SPOON past lives.

He's still more mellow than Robert Harrison in that aspect, though -- Rob more or less pretends that the original line-up of Cotton Mather never existed despite the existence of a 3-song cassette sampler and 5 more tracks demoed circa 1988, and he won't allow the "proper" band's first limited edition CD "The Crafty Flower Arranger" (1990) to be included in their discography! (Actually, now that he's fronting Future Clouds and Radar instead, he may have begun denying the existence of Cotton Mather altogether...)

I mean, imagine if Britt D. went around claiming that the Telephono had not yet been invented -- Alexandro Grahammo Bello would be spinning in his grave-o!

"Well, the first record that we put out, I'm not a real big fan of. I know there's some people that are. But you know, ironically, the thing that came out right after it is one of the best things we ever put out, I think, the Soft Effects EP." - Britt Daniel

He said one of the best things was the soft Effects EP. I'm crossing my fingers for a re-issue.

I know. My thought process was a tad convoluted. I was trying to prove you right by proving myself wrong.

I have a feeling they'll re-issue it, however I do feel like that time as passed, at least, for a while. The perfect time, in my opinion, to re-issue, would've been Record Store Day.

Oh that's ok. True....April 17th is just around the corner!!! It could be a surprise! Who knows. Maybe someday. I will be going to my local record store day at 9 a.m. when they open. Hoping, and dreaming, and wishing, and praying!

I just typed in: Spoon 7"

Which gave much better results than: Spoon vinyl - which is what I usually search on ebay.

Also did you notice on the listing that you also get a free "All the Negatives have Been Destroyed 7"? The lister said there was a minor chip on the outside, that didn't affect playing, but he didn't want to sell by itself. That's pretty cool I thought!

So hope bidding goes good! I spent way too much recreational money at record store day, and getting Oasis' vinyl singles :( So I didn't even bid. Just letting fellow Spoon fans know!

And darnit, I just got outbid on Not Turning Off.
