A lot of people compare Spoon and Wilco. When I was buying Transference at my local record store, an newer employee acted as if he just heard about Spoon. I told him how good they were and he said "I heard Spoon is like the new Wilco". I laughed a little. They came out around the same time.

As bands, perhaps their stories are the same. Getting dropped by their labels, each having 7 albums. Having great songwriting. Sure.

But Spoon in it's purest form is Rock 'n' Roll. Wilco is folk. I like both bands a lot. Don't get me wrong. But I don't think their music is similar.

I just wanted to publicly apologize for not posting that the SPOON episode of the David Letterman show was rerunning last night, but I didn't realize it until a half-hour before it started.

Man, what was up with Dave saying that Brother Theodore was coming up after the band was done? BroTheo died like two years ago at least! CREEPY!!! (Y'know, I'll bet BD had brought up Theodore's classic Late Nite appearances to Dave earlier and he still had the old boy on his mind when he was announcing the band, whaddayawannabet? It would be kinda like when the Butthole Surfers were on and the show came up from commercial while Dave was still in the middle of helping Paul Leary figure out the bus schedule for the area!)

Modest Mouse plays one hell of a show. You can see the entensity in his eyes when he plays "King Rat"

I always compare Spoon with Wilco. Jeff Tweedy and Britt Daniels would make a good pair both lyrically and vocally I think.

I was one to say I didn't enjoy their performance on tv, because I'm pretty sure we've all seen Spoon billions of times, and I just never catch the explosiveness on TV like I do in their live shows.

I have a question, then - my friend says that he thinks Spoon and Modest Mouse belong in the same general category of music. I think they have practically nothing in common; Spoon has a very mathematical, crisp/choppy "these chords go here" approach where any sound is game if it makes the song better, while Modest Mouse songs have a little drone to them and seem more like organic ideas than actual songs (early MM anyway). What do you guys think?
Congrats, Tyler! Wish I could be seeing them.

the studio version of Got Nuffin has been steadily growing on me ... when they released the single last year, i really didn't care much for it ... but i gotta say, it got great drive and grit! kind of like a slightly more polished, deeper-rooted "jonathan fisk" i think (fisk is no doubt a great song, i just think it has a bit of a looser, punkier sound, production-wise anyway)

I think it was a great performance! Everyone in the band seemed really into it and Britt's voice was much better this time around than on their last t.v. appearance. He sounded like he was sick at Conan's - or maybe his voice was just raw from the shows he did right before The Tonight Show.

I think this is the best live performance of Got Nuffin' I've heard to date. And the second drummer was Steven Patterson, lead singer of White Rabbits (their last album was produced by Brit Daniel). Awesome dynamic. I dig it.
