That's a good question. Besides physically handing it to the band or the crew at a show, maybe sending it to their manager at Constant Artists is the way to go?

Can anyone provide me with Spoon's snail mail address for fanmail?

Sending people fanmail is pretty corny, I know, but I'd like to express my gratitude for the amazing show they put on in Camden last February.

Thanks in advance,

Daniels isn't much of a talker on stage and I think if you can get the singer to break away for a bit and strike up some conversation then anything is possible in that time frame. I hardly ever see that with Spoon. He just likes to say "thank you" after every song haha.

They are a pack of friendly guys though.

That lead me to a link of that image in a PETA ad, which referred to her as "Lypsinka." I googled that and sure enough, Deux Deux is Lypsinka (real name: John Epperson).

Yeah but it's TOTALLY worth it isn't it? I wouldn't want to hear what a halfway Spoon album sounded like! They're not delaying anything if they don't have to, just want it to sound great. Fine tuning and production is what makes a good song great. The material can be good but the presentation of it is what makes it great.

The Underdog video was filmed in Mike McCarthy's studio. I am a musician myself. I do some basic recording, mostly demos. I honestly don't know a lot about recording. I work with a independent producer named Sean Ryan. I'm his first artist (there are about 5 people working with im right now). I don't know a lot, but I know I recently bought 2 new microphones that are amazing. I have a guitar player magazine (Has Paul McCartney on the cover). Didn't even know there was a Spoon segment in there! It came out right after Gimme Fiction. In the article Britt talked about recording. But he said the way Spoon records guitar is by micing the amp, and actually micing the guitar a bit (even electric). So you get the sound of the amp but also the sound of the guitar strings getting hit. That's the way they recorded the guitars for Gimme Fiction. I could only find part of the article online. Maybe try to hunt it down. It's the November 01 2005 issue of Guitar Player. Hope that helps a little.

I'd have to say "Girls Can Tell". Definitely Get on Viynl. It's my favorite album (and the last of all the Spoon albums I got). It's got a bit of all their styles, and I just love it. Also because Britt writes about realtionships and love and stuff. He's never wrote about that stuff before this album, or after this album. So in that way it's unique. I say get in on vinyl because I love it on vinyl, and you also get free mp3 download of the whole album. But also "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" and "Kill The Moonlight" are very accesible. It's somewhat "Poppy". Gimme Fiction is good too (it's the first album I bought) but the second side of the album is kinda hard to get into. I'd save Telephono/Soft Effects and Series of Sneaks for last. They're very good albums, but more heavy and abrasive.

As for the Spoon "Best of" theory
I don't think Spoon is a kind of band that would release a best of album. Unless they stop dealings with Merge and the label pulls a "Radiohead" move. Radioheads best of album was a compilation of songs on their capitol albums. The band had NOTHING to do with that release. They did not want to release a best of. They wanted to keep each album an album. I think that's how Spoon is too. Each album is so definitive and unique. It's inteded to be listened to as a whole album. Spoon takes a lot of pride in their recordings. So I think they want to keep them that way. But thst's just my opinion on what I know of Spoon.

I envy your front and center seat Tyler. We got there about 6 hours early, and had perfectly clear dibs at the second row, but decided for some stupid reason to nab the 3rd. Well, wouldn't you know it, all kinds of annoying teenagers showed up to take the 2nd row and ended up standing on the bleachers, blocking our view the whole night. If we had grabbed the 2nd when we had the chance, we would have had a crystal clear look along with you guys. Oh well.

From a microphone site:

"Our studio has several top notch Neumann tube mics, as well as many other choices of tube and ribbon microphones. Consistently, for electric guitar amps, the L47 is the favorite for most of the rock bands being recorded here. It has also served incredibly well for bass drum, vocals and any acoustic instruments. It is a great deal financially, and very durable. It handles the SPL of 50 and 100 watt Marshall amps with great character. A very 'do it to you in your eardrums sound'! Thanks, Gene, for being true to fine craft."

I've recently gotten into sound recording and have built a small studio in my house. I'm a big fan of Spoon and love the way the drums and bass sound on Gimme Fiction. Can anyone give me any insight into what techniques and equipment were used to record that album? I'd love to find out what kind of drums, mics, bass, bass amp, preamps, console, tape machine, etc were used. What mics were used for each drum and how were they set up? Was the bass amp mic'd or run direct, or both? What mics were used on the bass. Any info would be much appreciated.

Nice to hear jonnyb. Personally, I don't make a habit of bothering artists as they get hounded all day...having said that, I have talked with Britt on several occasions during the late 90's in Portland. The entire band came over and sat at my table at a very small club, EJ's, after opening for Swervedriver. Easy going, funny, and just all around nice chaps. Glad to see that you weren't let down.
